What People Are Saying

there is a small lot and street parking
Accessibility: this park really is not accessible as it is all wood chips inside, no paved area for wheelchairs to move easier on
This is a somewhat hidden dog park as the street on my navi doesn't actually go all the way through, but once you find it you'll love it because there is a huge area for big dogs and an equally large one for little dogs

About Ward Canyon Dog Park

Ward Canyon Dog Park in San Diego offers a spacious environment for pups to romp around in two separate off-leash areas—one for small dogs and the other for larger breeds. The ground is covered with soft shredded mulch, which helps minimize dirt flying everywhere, but be aware it can get a bit messy when dogs are active. A small lot and street parking make access convenient, especially on quieter Sundays when spots are plentiful.

While the park’s setup is inviting, some aspects leave room for improvement. The lack of paved paths can make it tricky for those using wheelchairs, and with only a few benches and limited shade, it can get quite hot for both dogs and their humans. However, many visitors appreciate the overall cleanliness and responsible dog owners who clean up after their pets, creating a friendly atmosphere.

If you’re seeking a socialization spot for your puppy or a fun gathering place for doggy reunions, this park fits the bill. Just remember to bring your own water—recently, bowls have been stolen and the ones chained up don’t hold much. While the park has certain quirks, it remains a solid choice for local dog lovers in the area.
